Hannah and Joe had a stunning Wellington City wedding on the waterfront, the ceremony was held at the beautiful New Zealand Portrait Gallery with its impressive high ceilings and the long room felt almost church-like. As Hannah said, she loved being surrounded by portraits of other people, it was humbling to stop and think about how we fit into a wider society.
Hannah and Joe wanted a relaxed, low key celebration, a good excuse to get together with all the people who are important to them. They also wanted to show off Wellington, the city they love, and so finding a venue in the central city was important to them. After the ceremony, we went for a walk through the city for their portrait session and made the most of the impressive architecture with the sunlight reflecting from one building to another.
Hannah’s Mum designed and made Hannah’s wedding dress, a modified Vogue pattern for the skirt made out of a textured linen, and a loose fitting tee made from sand-washed silk. The scarf in Hannah’s hair was inspired by a photo she’d seen years ago of a bride wearing a stunning silk turban, she thought it looked so striking that wanted to create something similar for her own hair as an alternative to a veil or flowers. Joe ended up with a suit that looked timeless and made him feel great.
The reception was enjoyed on the waterfront at Foxglove bar, (a bar with a secret entrance through a wardrobe! Welcome to Narnia!) where canapes, cocktails and doughnuts were served. All the guests enjoyed a wonderful band called The Dancing & Drinking Society and they all danced the night away.
